THE STORY OF NEHEMIAH

Let us rise up and build.
So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
Nehemiah 2:18 (KJV)

Jerusalem, the holy city of God, lay in ruins after being sacked by the Babylonians in 586 BC. The temple had been destroyed, and the great wall around the city was toppled.

A century and a half later, Nehemiah, a man of prayer, vision, and action, came forward and said, “Let us rise up and build” the wall of Jerusalem. His approach was simple and inspiring. He understood that success depended upon God and not himself. He divided the bigger goal into smaller pieces. He developed detailed plans, raised money, and organized people to complete the task.

The great wall that had lain in ruin for more than 150 years was rebuilt in fifty-two days - one stone at a time. How? More than forty different groups of people each rebuilt the section of the wall that was nearest to them. Each person did their share.

Together, they accomplished the impossible.
